Beginning Now

Print
Craft. Tactile homage,
and respect to craft,
its inviolable depths
and integrity,
to approach craft
as you would a fertile god,
to practice, radically, at its altar,
to consecrate with marked intent,
and to know in your heart’s heart
that you are always a beginner,
beginning again,
muddying your fresh prints
in texture well beyond your grasp,
yet always reaching, always beginning,
always lush loss renewing
the most noble call
to failure,
approximating countless measures,
where artists dare to tread
heaven’s ground
as time-locked beginners.
