Roots

My heart,
forever the weeded ace
and wandering fool,
scored to secret pines,
sings of resident gloam
pooled
in that forest
of backlit signs,
which grows beyond
its clipped horizons
to invigorate departures,
spurred by the genius
of wordless roots.
